– There was such a time in London when near-unemployable freaks could still live off working as film extras. It was in a highly glamorous circumstance of a Child Benefit advert shoot on a freezing cold London winter day, Mark Charles and I met for the first time, dutifully carrying out the tasks given to us, several yards away from the camera, as extras.

Despite the extreme cold which made it physically difficult to even keep standing still, let alone converse with another human being, we had somehow sensed that we shared a common interest in music, and thus our friendship began, initially as drinking buddies, together with his partner Susan Mihalski.

After several months of piss-ups, we had decided that it was time to commence our ‘recording sessions’, i.e. piss-ups all the same but with the tape running.
